Windows Vs Linux Vs Mac

Windows, Linux and Macintosh are the three operating systems that are being used today. These three OS are not new operating systems. Having survived for almost three decades the Big 3 Operating Systems still  play a vital role in computing.

Let’s star with the Windows OS platform. With 90% market share Windows  is the most widely used OS even today.

Windows

Pros

  1. Windows is the most compatible OS found today. Most of the software’s developed run on the Windows platform. Applications, drivers, games and many other complex software’s run on Windows.

  2. Windows support is legendary. As the OS is used by a large number of users it’s support network is large. It is possible to find various stores dedicated to giving support for MS Windows.

  3. Ease of use. The Windows OS is user very user friendly.

Cons

1.  Windows OS needs an Anti-Virus software to make the OS secure.

2.  The original version of the OS comes with a large cost.

3.   Some versions of the OS usually take up lot of space in the PC.

Linux

Linux is an open source OS developed during the early 90’s.

Pros

1. Linux is an open source software which makes it available to everyone for free.

2. Linux is actually not an OS. It is a kernel. Therefore, there are multiple versions of the software. For example, there is Fedora, Ubuntu , Chrome OS etc.

3. Linux has a good shield against viruses and is considered to be more secure than Windows.

Cons

  1. Linux is not much compatible. Only a few applications can actually run on Linux.

  2. Linux is complicated compared to Windows. An user will need a good deal of computer knowledge and commands to actually make it work.

  3. Linux is usually not pre-loaded. Very few vendors usually  pre-load the computers with Linux.

Mac OS

Mac OS is even older than Windows. It was the first ever Graphical User Interface based computer system the world has ever seen.

Pros

1. Apples’ Mac OS is in a different league when it comes to shielding users from attacks.  The OS has features like Gatekeeper, xProtect and Apple’s Sandbox which makes the system almost 100% secure.

2. Macs run only on Apple computers and are less prone to crashing. Also, it is not easy to find a pirated version of Macintosh

3. Aesthetically pleasing  user interface and easy to work for users.

Cons

  1. Mac is super expensive. It’s much more expensive than Windows or Linux.

  2. Mac is not  that compatible. Most software’s are not designed to run on Mac.

  3. Mac is gamer unfriendly. The OS is not known to run a lot of games.

The OS of today are quite improved from the OS of the 90’s . However, the underlying features haven’t changed much. The OS of the future will be more about creating a better user experience through deep learning. AI will play a significant role in improving the OS’s of tomorrow.

5 Reasons Why Backing Up Your Files Offsite

It is imperative that you have a backup plan for everything in life because you would not know when you would need to call upon it, to get you out of a predicament.

Life is uncertain and that is an understatement, as we know by experience how many times things have turned sour, sometimes at very inopportune moments.

The unexpected happens unexpectedly and that is a general fact of life which most of us would have at the back of our minds when we set out on our daily chores.

It is the same case with our computers where we could be storing information which is very important to us and if we do not have a backup plan to ensure they are safe we could be vulnerable to lose them.

The issues that such an unfortunate incident to occur could be many reasons and it would generally come out of the blues and you would know what hit you till you lost all.

Even in the case of important hardcopy documents, it would be prudent to keep a copy or two of each of them.

If the unfortunate happens you would have a copy at least to initiate a search at the relevant authorities and get yourself a certified copy.

Such is the importance of having backups for all your important documents whether they are in the hardcopy of in your computer, which could be transferred into a softcopy.

The few instances that your computer could play truant and make you lose all that data or other important materials could be because of any one of the following.

  • A crashed computer – This could happen at any time and that too without any prior warning, and when t does happen you could lose every bit of information stored in your computer.

  • A virus attack – This also happens regularly and if you are not protected with a reputed virus guard you could lose even very valuable information never to be retrieved again.

  • Failed hard drives – This could also happen without any warning, it is this that could put you back in square number one again.

Imagine that you are just days away from an important assignment or even an examination, and if this happens, you are done for.

Damage the computer physically – You could drop the computer and crash it but the worst would be if drops in water never to be found or is caught in a fire.

Robbed- This would be the worst scenario because with modern thieves getting your computer back would only be a dream. They would cannibalize your computer before you could even walk up to the law enforcement authorities.

The above could be just a few of the instances that you would lose whatever is stored in your computer with recovery impossible.

When the files you have stored are important then you would rue the fact that you did not have a backup.

Then it would be too late as you would not be able to do anything about it and it would be similar to that proverbial saying “locking the stable doors after the horses have bolted”.

This should not happen to anyone hence it is imperative that we think prudently and ensure that we have backups of every single file in our possession.

What would be important and what is not would be your personal decision but it does not cost a fortune to save all.

Especially if you would not realize someday in the future that even the unimportant could be important someday hence we list some things you could do about them.

#1. An easy process to recover

We need to have an easy process to recover because we could be careless sometimes by opening emails and other sites which could be potential dangers which we may not know.

You could initiate snapshots of everything that you would be doing on your computer and f the unfortunate happens you could always retrieve them from the time you were attacked.

This would give you that slight edge which you would be looking at to get back into business without losing files as well as your will to move forward.

#2. Recouping fast

Even if you are hit by a catastrophe it is important that you recover fast or you could lose all your customers if you are in business to your competition.

Getting back on your feet and getting your horses together is important and that could be done and achieved only if you have the adequate backup plan in place.

The idea is to have and build the confidence in your backup plan with the notion that even if the sky falls on your head you would come back fighting.

#3. Grave mistakes

This is what happens to those who would have had a downturn with a problem in their backup systems or the absence of it.

It has been researched that about 43% of companies that have gone through such a predicament would either recover very slowly at snail’s pace or folded up end their business.

The situation could be that bad if you are not ready for any eventuality which most businesses take for granted and then rue their mistakes.

#4. Records of all payments

This is one of the most important factors that need to be seriously considered because this is about money that you would have to dole out if you do not have the proper records.

Bill payments, tax returns, employee benefits and a host of other information are important and needs to be stored safely elsewhere.

#5. Ensure the job is well done

Ensuring that you have the perfect backup is important as there would not be a second chance and what actions you take would be very important because if not you could suffer.

The losses could be immense hence ensuring that you have the most foolproof system is very important as you would not have the opportunity to do it again.
